It was nearly 4 years ago when production of “The Simpsons” was put on hold while a new deal between cast members and Fox was put into motion. Now that we are approaching the 20th season, the cast of the hit show has found themselves in a similar position and are asking for more money per episode. According to Variety:
The key “Simpsons” cast members — Dan Castellaneta (Homer), Julie Kavner (Marge), Nancy Cartwright (Bart), Yeardley Smith (Lisa), Hank Azaria (Moe) and Harry Shearer (Mr. Burns) — are believed to make around $360,000 an episode. A new deal could bump that number closer to $500,000, including various bonuses. That’s more in line with the paydays of many live-action sitcom stars (with the exception of bigtime leads like “Two and a Half Men’s” Charlie Sheen).
Rumor has it that a deal is close to being made but as of now the 20th season is already behind on production which may prevent a couple of episodes from being made. Personally, I think that if the idiocy that was the cast of “Friends” could pull in a cool $1 million an episode for playing 2 chords on the guitar and singing songs about smelly cats or walking around like they have just undergone a lobotomy, then the cast of “The Simpsons” should easily be making at least half of that. With the show making a rebound as far as writing goes, I can hope the casts gets their fair share from Fox and the landmark 20th season continues as scheduled.
