Director Ron Howard returns to the helm along with co-producers Brian Grazer and John Calley.  The screenplay was written by David Koepp and Akiva Goldsman.  “Angels & Demons” is scheduled to hit theaters May 15, 2009.

Looks like Columbia Pictures is catching on to the viral marketing trend for the film.  During the teaser trailer, when the rotating “Illuminati” ambigram first appears, you’ll notice the following text: A L T A R S O F S C I E N C E.  Heading over to http://www.altarsofscience.com, you’ll find a ticking time bomb aka a canister of highly unstable dark matter nestled somewhere within the confines of the Vatican.  While you may not be able to see the text in the video below, here is a clearer picture:

She is the second Obama relative known to live on skid row. His own brother was found living in a cardboard shanty last month in Kenya, and now his aunt in a Bostonlaw school. She was found slum just five miles from where Obama attended by British journalists in a dismal, run-down public housing project in a violent slum in south Boston.

The first set of stills has been released on the film “Angels & Demons”, the anticipated prequel follow-up to the controversial Dan Brown novel-to-film adaptation, “The Da Vinci Code”, which raked in $758 million worldwide.  “Angels & Demons” continues the adventures of Harvard symbologist, Robert Langdon, who uncovers a threatening conspiracy that rests between the Vatican and the once thought disbanded secret society known as the Illuminati.

Months earlier, it was reported that film crews had been banned from shooting in locales such as the Vatican as Church officials claimed that the novel’s material did not agree with religious sentiment.  Producer, Brian Grazer, made the following key comments regarding “The Da Vinci Code”‘s reception and what we can expect from “Angels & Demons”:

“I think we may have been too reverential toward it (DVC),” Grazer said. “We got all the facts of the book right, but the movie was a little long and stagey.”

“We’re living in a world that’s much more unstable.  Therefore, our energy is focused on belief. This looks at what would happen when you have an act of terrorism designed to undermine that belief.”

“Weirdly, even though there was so much controversy on The Da Vinci Code, we were able to shoot everywhere.  We were in London, France, so it was harder to catch us.”

In Angels & Demons, “Langdon doesn’t stop and give a speech.  When he speaks, he’s in motion.”  Largely set at the Vatican, “we were pretty much in exile from the religious epicenter of the world.”

Also very important to note is that they’ve replaced that dated 80s Greaser mullet they gave Tom Hanks back in DVC with a more contemporary clean-shaven hairstyle :

Joining the cast, with Hanks reprising his role as Robert Langdon, are Ayelet Zurer as Vittoria Vetra, Ewan Mcgregor as Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca, Pierfrancesco Favino as Commander Olivetti, and Thure Lindhart as Lieutenant Chartrand.

“Angels & Demons” is scheduled to hit theaters May 15, 2009.

Unofficial, that is   I realized you readers really don’t get much of a chance to learn about the writers behind Angry Web, so here’s something I’d like to share that I know you guys will certainly enjoy.

My name is Eugene and I am a self-taught screenwriter.  I’ve been writing for about 3 years now, hoping to one day get that foot in the door with a breakthrough script that will blow producers’ minds away for once.  However, the only reason I began writing in the first place was thanks to the often frowned upon director known as Bret Ratner

It’s been a little over a year since I finished writing “X4″, a follow-up to the abominable and unacceptable finale of a trilogy that we received as “X-Men: The Last Stand” and it’s at this point where I’ve decided to finally release it out there for fans to read.  Initially, when I wrote this, I had plans to take this baby of mine as far as I could, whether to Mr. Avi Arad at Marvel Studios or to the studio execs at Fox.  The bottom line was, I wanted to get this read by anyone on the inside.  So I wrote a 125-page screenplay along with a 2-page treatment, and shipped them off to Lauren Shuler Donner, Ralph Winter, and Zak Penn.  Weeks later, to no surprise, I received kind rejection letters from each of them mentioning that they did not accept unsolicited material.  I needed a professional agent, but the reality of it was, what kind of delusional agent would even consider buying an “X-Men 4″ screenplay for a multimillion dollar comic book movie franchise where they could easily hire any other professional writer on the inside?  So I moved on to write original screenplays and that’s where I’m at to this present day.

I spent one summer reading through the entire X-Men wiki and various other graphic novels including Mutant Massacre, which the script’s storyline revolves around.   You’ll notice several canonical references to X-Men mythos including the Hellfire Club, Cameron Hodge, Herbert Wyndham (The High Evolutionary), as well as Gambit’s relations with Mr. Sinister.  Cameos include: Marrow, Longshot, Valerie Cooper, Forge, and many more.  As for that first scene at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History – Yes, those events actually transpired (minus Essex’s appearance, obviously) and some of the comments between a few of the characters were really exchanged.  Charles Darwin was, in fact, ill on the night of the assembly, but who knows…maybe he was secretly there after all
