Ledger’s daughter, Matilda, will keep Golden Globe

Posted by Daniel Nasserian On January - 14 - 2009

According to the Australian site, news.com, Heath Ledger’s daughter Matilda will be hanging on to the Golden Globe award that the late actor won last Sunday.

It is such a fantastic and wonderful legacy for his daughter. Matilda will have so many people who will be able to speak to her about her father’s abilities and (the) respect he had in the industry.

Matilda was a very important part of Heath’s life. So much so that she was the primary reason Ledger was living in New York at the time of his death. For those that don’t know, Heath even payed a small tribute to Matilda in “The Dark Knight” by wearing her name as part of the nurse outfit.

Samuel L. Jackson No Longer Playing Nick Fury?

Posted by Eugene Wong On January - 14 - 2009

Let me get this straight.  Terence Howard is being replaced by Don Cheadle in “Iron Man 2″…and now Samuel L. Jackson may no longer be playing Nick Fury?  Apparently, that was what Jackson suggested to the LA Times:

There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], ‘We’re not making that deal.’

I called Marvel Comics and they gave me a statement that suggested that they still want to see Jackson wearing the eyepatch. “Marvel does not comment on active negotiations,” was the boilerplate repsonse, but there was that emphasis on the word “active” in the voice of the spokesman who phoned me back.

An economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world, eh?  Wow, I’ve seen Circuit City and Macy’s stores closing, as well as dot com giants like Google and Yahoo struggling, but never have I expected Marvel Comics having to replace Samuel L. Jackson with some lower-paid actor for the role of Nick Fury.  This world has gone mad!sam jackson nick fury Samuel L. Jackson No Longer Playing Nick Fury?Whatever, I say take this story with a grain of salt.  That’s like recasting Neil Patrick Harris for the role of Neil Patrick Harris in the “Harold & Kumar” movies!

Jackie Chan. Does not exist. In this dojo. Does he? NO, SENSEI!!!

For those not yet aware of the horrid news released back in November, Will Smith had announced plans to develop a reimagining of the 1980s classic “The Karate Kid” with Columbia Pictures.  Smith’s son, Jaden Smith, was confirmed for the lead role, based on the character of Daniel Laruso, while Chris Murphy would pen the screenplay that would borrow elements from the original.  The “remake” would also be relocated to an exotic Beijing locale.

jackiechan Jackie Chan. Does not exist. In this dojo. Does he? NO, SENSEI!!!Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, Jackie Chan has been confirmed for the Mr. Miyagi role, while “Pink Panther 2″ director, Harold Zwart will helm the film (wtf wtf wtf???).  Yes, you heard right.  This sounds awful.  As I recall, regarding  “The Karate Kid”, Noriyuki “Pat” Morita was indeed nominated for an Academy Award for his performance as Mr. Miyagi.  What kind of  f*ed up drugs were the folks at Columbia Pictures on when they decided to cast Jackie Chan for the role?  Or even decided to make this film in the first place?  WTF.  Will Smith, why are you trying to ruin my childhood?  Oh, I see what your plan was all along…warm up our once-prepubescent, little hearts with one of the most memorable Nick-at-Nite worthy shows on television called “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air”…then once we’re all grown up, rip apart another one of our generation’s most beloved and prized of childhood classics?

Somebody boycott this project.  Do something.  Maybe when Columbia Pictures realizes (surely they have?) the tremendous amount of negative response this project has been receiving, they’ll eventually decide to cancel it.  It worked with “The Justice League” (good Lord), after all.

Things Looking Good For “Watchmen”?

Things Looking Good For Watchmen? The latest news is that a scheduled Tuesday court meeting between Fox and Warner Bros. has been cancelled…hmm.  Well, as far as speculation goes, it sounds like things are looking up for Warner Bros. as settlements are finally being reached.  It has also been reported that this past weekend running through Monday, the two studios had been engaging in some serious settlement talks where things did heat up.  Warner Bros. may end up owing Fox tens of millions of dollars in the end as well as a percentage of the profits.  Let’s hope this movie really blows our minds as much as we expect it to icon smile Things Looking Good For Watchmen?

3 new pics from Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming film, “Kick-Ass”, have surfaced on the web.  “Kick-Ass” is based on the Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. comic about an ordinary high school geek who decides to become a superhero.  Eventually, he enters the real world facing real bad guys with real weapons.  A release date is yet to be announced.
