If you were born anytime in the 80s, chances are, this day just got a whole lot better.  The news is as genuine as ever – the live-action turtles we all grew up to love are coming back to the big screen!  Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, and Raphael!

The big announcement came today during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as Mirage Group is moving forward with a live-action movie focusing on the origins of the turtles.

The project is aiming for a 2011 release year, marking it as the 5th TMNT film in the franchise.  Scott Mednick, Legendary Pictures former chief marketing officer, will be producing next to Galen Walker, who produced the last computer-animated film, TMNT.  Executive producing the film will be Peter Laird, Gary Richardson, Frederick Fierst, Eric Crown, and Napoleon Smith III.

Peter Laird stated that the film will remain faithful to the original, darker comic series and may utilize face replacement technology to add more expression to the turtles.  Laird and Kevin Eastman created the ninja turtles back in 1984.

Well, it sounds like the turtles might just be getting a Batman Begins treatment.  I like it.
