Much discussion has been made amongst fan communities regarding whether “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” will be a setup for “X-Men: First Class”. Producer Lauren Shuler Donner has elaborated on the idea, stating that while some characters might possibly appear in “X-Men: First Class”, Gambit will not. The film will only feature those mutants from Professor Xavier’s first class at his school for the gifted. Donner had earlier commented that “First Class” was rewritten during post-production of “Wolverine” to match the timing and age of the characters. Could this be a contradiction or can we still expect other mutants from “Wolverine” to make an appearance?
When asked about a possible Gambit spin-off, Donner had this to say:
“There are internal discussions (about a Gambit spin-off) and they are going to figure all that out.”
Asked about the possible return of Bryan Singer as director, she said the following:
“Nothing would please me more than to bring Bryan [Singer] on for another movie. And, if it’s like the first Deadpool or the first Gambit, I think, I mean, I hope he would be interested…”
Fox head, Tom Rothman followed up with his comments on potential spin-offs:
“If it works out well, and we think it will, than we’ll be hard at work on ‘em.”
Regarding the secret endings, he mentions that they “hint about what ones are coming next.” We already know there is one easter egg ending concerning Deadpool so it shouldn’t be a surprise if this is one of the spin-offs planned in addition to Gambit’s.
