According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lauren Shuler Donner and Fox Studios have confirmed production on a Deadpool spin-off film. Marvel Studios had initially planned for the spin-off much earlier during the production of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. Ryan Reynolds, who plays the witty, blade-wielding mercenary from “Wolverine”, is attached to reprise the role. The film is tentatively titled “Deadpool”, and may possibly change in the future.
Writers may want to take advantage of this preliminary news as Marvel Studios is currently seeking someone to pen the screenplay. Fanboys beware though – studios will not accept or even read any unsolicited scripts and will simply trash them or return them to the sender. Lauren Shuler Donner didn’t even touch the X4 screenplay I wrote, and had her assistant ship my screenplay materials back to me…grrr. If you truly believe it is your destiny to write the ultimate, redemptive Deadpool screenplay and guide Fox into the light, then by all means, go for it. However, this will not be an easy task at all and you will have to climb a few mountains. Here’s what you have to do – write a few other screenplays, convince an agent to work for you, sell some of those screenplays to studios (especially Fox), and finally pitch your “Deadpool” idea to Fox hoping it’s #1 out of the 50 other ideas they’ve already listened to. Good luck.
