Dan Aykroyd recently spoke with The Hero Complex regarding progress on “Ghostbusters 3″. Aykroyd stated that Ivan Reitman, who directed the first 2 films, is “too busy as a mega-producer” this time around, but noted his second choice director as Ghostbusters veteran and fellow co-star Harold Ramis. With the third installment being written by screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, it comes as little surprise that Ramis is a reasonable choice, considering his directing work with the writing team on comedy “Year One”. Aykroyd has said the following regarding Ramis:
“He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it.”
Contrary to earlier rumors, Judd Apatow was not mentioned as a directorial candidate.
Additional casting news reveals that Sigourney Weaver is now on board, joining original members Aykroyd, Billy Murray, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson. There is still no word, however, on Rick Moranis’ return, but I wouldn’t keep my fingers crossed.
Aykroyd also revealed further details on the new Ghosbusting team, mentioning that they have plans to introduce a five-member core team with several female recruits. Listed among the casting choices are Alyssa Milano (who voiced the upcoming video game) and Eliza Dushku.
Finally, Dan Aykroyd went on to say that he believes that with the current pace in development of the project, production could happen as early as this winter. Really, that fast? Well, as long as they know exactly what they’re doing and aren’t rushing into this, I seriously can’t wait for this to get started.
