inceptionjapan Chris Nolan is all smiles in Tokyo :)Wow.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mr. Nolan this incredibly happy. He’s smiling so hard you can’t even see his eyes! Maybe now would be a good time to ask him about “Batman 3″…

The photograph above was taken on June 15th as shooting for Christopher Nolan’s next film “Inception” has recently begun in Tokyo.  “Inception” has been reported to have an estimated budget of $150 million – lower than what was previously stated, but still quite substantial.  Working under the title “Oliver’s Arrow” for discreet purposes, the film will also be shot in Los Angeles, London, Paris, Tangiers, and Calgary.  Oliver’s Arrow?  Sounds awfully like the title for a Green Arrow movie, hmm…naahh!  Photographers have been trying to take pictures of the director and cast, which includes Leonardo DicCaprio, Ken Watanabe, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to name only a few.

Screenwriter David Goyer also spoke with IGN who confirmed that the film has already started shooting, and responded very briefly on his plans for “Batman 3″.  Here’s what he had to say:

“You know, talk to [Nolan] after he finishes Inception, which he’s shooting right now. That just started shooting.”

Goyer also said to not expect to hear anything about the third installment until principal photography for “Inception” is complete.  Well, “Inception” has taken off much faster than we thought and it looks like things are moving rather smoothly for Nolan.  Before you know it, shooting will be finished come September/October.  By then, we should really start hearing some concrete news on “Batman 3″ rather than all the ludicrous rumors that have been flying around – Sam Rockwell to replace Bale?  Rachel Weiss as Catwoman?  Eddie Murphy as The Riddler?  I think I’ll stop there.

Little to no details have been released about “Inception” as the cast and crew have all remained very hush about it.  The only details we do know is that it’s “a contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.”  No idea what that means, but it sure sounds like more psychological Memento-ish awesomeness from Nolan.
