7/2 UPDATE: Aww #$@^&$!!! The site was for Sengoku Basara 3. What a shame, indeed.

7/1 UPDATE: Today, the site crossed out 1582 with 4 X’s and added 1600. 1596? 1600? Close enough?

Over the past week or so, Capcom released its own teaser site hinting at its next big project by simply displaying the year “1560″.  Gamers initially thought that since the site was linked from the Sengoku Basara (Devil Kings) official site, Capcom was developing a new game for the popular franchise in Japan.

However, this past Monday, the “1560″ was crossed out and replaced by a “1573″.  On Tuesday, the “1573″ was crossed out and replaced by a “1582″.  What could these years possibly signify?  Well, looking at the popular “Onimusha” PS2 video game franchise, which includes Onimusha, Onimusha 2, and Onimusha 3, we see that the years correspond closely to the time frames of each game.

The only year remaining would be 1596, which corresponds to the 4th installment, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.  If we do see a “1596″ appear on the site come tomorrow, we could indeed be looking at a new Onimusha game.  Hold your celebrations for now, guys.  We’ll be sure to keep you informed of further developments as they unfold.

The teaser site can be found HERE.
