AW Movie Review: “The Green Hornet”

In the 3D action-comedy, “The Green Hornet”, Britt Reid (played by Seth Rogen) is a spoiled adult, whose primary goal in life is to party and disobey his father, James Reid (played by Tom Wilkinson), in any way possible. James is a prominent and respected media magnet in Los Angeles that fights corruption through his paper, while Britt parties into the night and frequently appears in his father’s paper, generally in a less than flattering light.
When James dies mysteriously, Britt is faced with the challenges of running a newspaper empire that he neither wants nor cares about. He soon meets his father’s old mechanic and coffee maker, Kato (played by Jay Chou), and the two form an unlikely bond, fueled by the fact that neither has even begun to crack their true potential. Britt is an intelligent but unmotivated individual, and Kato is a gifted engineer and martial artist that does nothing with either ability.
After a drunken evening filled with moments of bonding about pasts, the men head out into the city to cause trouble, but that is interrupted when Britt witnesses a mugging and attempts to stop it. He barely succeeds, and Kato quickly comes to his rescue after a near death experience. Together the two take in the excitement of helping people, and Britt then has a brilliant idea.
Rather than fighting evil out of revenge, or feelings of responsibility, Britt and Kato decide to fight crime because they are bored of their normal lives and think it is fun. Britt’s brilliant plan proposes that they should pose as villains and attack the city’s criminals to gain more territory and credibility, while secretly working their way up the underworld and identifying the main threats. It doesn’t take long before the city’s resident kingpin, Chudnofsky (played by Christoph Waltz) takes notice of their skills and to his annoyance growing popularity, and Britt and Kato underestimate his power and ruling over the city.
This movie is fun to watch and has both action and comedy combined. If anyone likes a lot of crude comedy, filled with some awesome action sequences, and a pimped out ride, I definitely suggest you go and see “The Green Hornet”. Personally, I enjoyed the slow motion action sequences that Kato had to offer. It was both interesting and different seeing it in 3D but I don’t think the movie had to be in 3D to make it interesting.
I give this movie a 4 out of 5.
