New images for “Alice: Madness Returns”

Posted by Daniel Nasserian On May - 26 - 2011

Here are some more images for ”Alice: Madness Returns”. This is starting to look like quiet the promising game.

In anticipation of the upcoming release of Alice: Madness Returns, EA and Spicy Horse Games are excited to release all new assets demonstrating one of Alice’s more chaotic combat abilities – Hysteria!  Similar to the feeling of super power that players felt when using the “Rage Box” item in American McGee’s Alice, “Hysteria” acts as a conduit for Alice’s intense rage and desire to win against her psychological demons.  The new mode offers players a powerful and bloody way to pull Alice back from the brink of death and lay waste to her enemies.

Alice: Madness Returns is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in North America on June 14, 2011.

AW Movie Review: Pirates Of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

AW Movie Review: Pirates Of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The new “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” was interesting to say the least. Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, is his usual charming self in the movie. Combined with his impossible but comedic escapes, his witty nature, and his ever growing line of lover, Jack Sparrow is the only true source of fun in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”. Some of the newer shipmates brought into the story line consisted of Penélope Cruz as Angelica, a former lover of Captain Jack and the daughter of the villainous Blackbeard, Ian McShane. She is a lethal beauty who won’t be pushed around by others and knows how to use an array of weapons for defense. Astrid Berges-Frisbey, is introduced in the form of a young and beautiful mermaid who has a nasty bite, literally. Last is the soul saving hunk of missionary, played by Sam Claflin, who is deeply in love with Syrena.

The story line revolves around the hunt for the Fountain of Youth, and the steps that lead there. In order for the Fountain of Youth to grant eternal life, a fresh tear from a mermaid, two chalices, water from the fountain itself and a sacrifice is required. Many ships soon crowd the waters in search of the Fountain. Some of these ships consisted of the Spaniards, who searched for the fountain because of religion, and the British fleets, who Captain Barbossa controls. Last is Blackbeard’s ship which seems to always be ahead of all the other contestants in the search for the fountain.

I thought the movie was a riot but that may be because I personally went for the comedy and not the action or quality. Compared to the first three movies, the fourth edition to the Pirates of the Caribbean series was completely lacking the same quality that the first three seemed to provide. Everything seemed a bit silly and held no serious or epic moments that would “wow” the audience. The soundtrack was amazing and the classical guitar playing pirate caused a giggle in the audience. Although I enjoyed many of the sword fighting, cliff jumping, scenes that only Jack Sparrow could pull off, I hope that this will be the last of the Pirates series in order to preserve the quality of the first three.

Remembering “The Dark Knight” viral campaign

Posted by Daniel Nasserian On May - 21 - 2011

With the new campaign rolling out for “The Dark Knight Rises”, I went back into the ole’ Angry Web archives and pulled up some images and files that remind us how great the viral marketing was for “The Dark Knight”.

As a huge fan of the franchise, I was but a mere geek among geeks that blogged about the campaign and played along. I went to Santa Monica to participate in promoting Harvey Dent. I went to Hollywood to get a Joker card. I drove to San Diego to see the movie 3 days before it’s release.

At the time, Angry Web was just a site hosted by wordpress.com. My coverage blew the site up and forced me into becomming self-hosted and take things a bit more seriously. Unfortunately, I took things a bit too seriously and posted some pictures of Heath Ledger in the nurse’s outfit and was paid a visit by a Warner Bros. investigator late one Friday night along with a cease an desist email. Fortunately everything turned out OK but because of that, Angry Web became much more than a blog for me.

Here is a little trip down memory lane for fans of Batman and Nolan’s work alike. This is my collection of files going back to the beginning of “The Dark Knight” viral campaign. Enjoy!

This picture made its way around the internet...That's me in the reflection.

Warner Bros has also put out the official press release for the film:

BURBANK, CA, May 19, 2011 – Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Leading an all-star international cast, Oscar® winner Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) again plays the dual role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, as Selina Kyle; Tom Hardy, as Bane; Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”), as Miranda Tate; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as John Blake. Returning to the main cast, Oscar® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules”) plays Alfred; Gary Oldman is Commissioner Gordon; and Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”) reprises the role of Lucius Fox.

In helming “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christopher Nolan is utilizing IMAX® cameras even more extensively than he did on “The Dark Knight,” which had marked the first time ever that a major feature film was partially shot with IMAX® cameras. The results were so spectacular that the director wanted to expand the use of the large-format cameras for this film.

The screenplay for “The Dark Knight Rises” is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is being produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. “The Dark Knight” is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Behind the scenes, “The Dark Knight Rises” reunites the director with several of his longtime collaborators, all of whom worked together on the “The Dark Knight.” The creative team includes director of photography Wally Pfister, who recently won an Oscar® for his work on Nolan’s “Inception”; production designer Nathan Crowley; editor Lee Smith; and Oscar®-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). In addition, Paul Franklin and Chris Corbould, who both won Oscars® for the effects in “Inception,” will supervise the visual and special effects, respectively. The music will be composed by Oscar® winner Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King”).

The locations for “The Dark Knight Rises” span three continents and include the American cities of Pittsburgh, New York and Los Angeles, as well as sites in India, England and Scotland.

“The Dark Knight Rises” is a presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures, in association with Legendary Pictures. Slated for release on July 20, 2012, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
