“Batman: Arkham City” box art officially released
Why I won’t be buying “Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D”
As a huge fan of the “Resident Evil” franchise, you could only imagine my excitement when I found out there would be a 3D version coming out on Nintendo’s 3DS system. After playing it at E3 this year, it was one of the many titles I looked forward to dropping some hard earned money on and playing this year…that was until I found out how the save system works.
Like most gamers, once my room gets saturated with plastic gaming boxes, I like to put them on eBay or give them to friends. Well that won’t be the case with “Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D”. REM3D’s save system does not allow the user to overwrite their game save file rendering it useless to anyone else that plays the game after you, and thus, killing the resell value.
One of the best features of Nintendo’s new handheld was the ability to save games on the included SD card so games could be shared and even rented from services like GameFly. What Capcom has done is just plain…well, evil.
I have sent in a few questions to my contact at Capcom and hopefully will get some answers to update this post with but until then, I will be boycotting this title in hopes it won’t become the new industry standard for publishers.
Robin confirmed as playable character in “Batman: Arkham City”
Liam Neeson returning to TDKR?
Actor Liam Neeson, who played the villain Ra’s Al Ghul in “Batman Begins”, has been spotted on the set of “The Dark Knight Rises”. While no official confirmation has been made of Neeson’s involvement, it is likely that he will be reprising the role. It had also earlier been announced that actor Josh Pence would be playing a young Ra’s Al Ghul in flashbacks.
“The Dark Knight Rises” hits theaters July 20th, 2012.
First Impressions: Nintendo Wii U controller
At E3 2011, Nintendo unveiled the long rumored successor to the Wii, dubbed the “Wii U”. The only software that was available to play on the show floor was comprised of tech demos that, according to Nintendo, did not show off the power of the new system. The star of the show was, in fact, the new controller that resembles an iPad more than a video game controller. I got some hands-on time recently with the new controller and here are my observations.
- It is very, very, light! Seeing the controller online or through a display case does not do it justice. Once I had it in my hands I noticed that it was lighter than my Xbox 360 controller. It could still be in the prototype stages, but it did not feel as durable as the other console controllers.
- The button layout felt very familiar. Since there is a decent sized LCD screen in the middle of the controller I was worried my hands/fingers would be too far apart. I was honestly shocked by how good the controller felt in my hands.
- The LCD screen in the middle of the controller is quite impressive. The Wii U can actually stream the video from the game to the controller in a flash if you do not feel like playing on your TV for any reason. I wouldn’t say it outputs HD visuals just yet, but it does get the job done if you have to leave the room for any reason and want to continue your game.
The Wii U is shaping up to be a strong contender with the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Nintendo has committed to revamp their online strategy and focus more on the hardcore gamers and third party developers. With a release date sometime around fall 2012 we probably will not see anything new till next years E3 in Los Angeles.
First look at season 2 of “The Walking Dead”
AMC has released the first image of “The Walking Dead” season 2.
Executive Producer/Writer/Director Frank Darabont says, “At this moment, I’m standing on a stretch of post-apocalypse interstate in Georgia, littered with abandoned cars and blessing my good luck to be reunited with our amazing cast, and our fantastic directors and crew. Across the board, there are none better. It’s great to be shooting again. I think we’ve embarked on a great season.”
Season 2 premieres this fall on AMC.
Art for the rest of us
There is nothing better than a good painting on your wall to tie your room together. But what if you’re tired of looking at Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” or that Italian Renaissance piece doesn’t go with your new Yellow [insert crazy Swedish word here] couch?
Art has always been tied to culture and us geeks have our own culture to be proud of. When I saw some of the paintings coming out of my friend Mark Edward Smith’s lab, I knew this was something I would have to share with the Angry Web demographic. His subject matter speaks to our generation, the color pallet is vivid enough for any young adult’s room or dorm and, lastly, it’s just plain badass.
Here are some samples of his work and you can see more on his DeviantArt page.
