“The Amazing Spider-Man” teaser and Lizard details

If by any remote chance, you have not seen this trailer already, here you go:

At this year’s Sony Pictures SDCC panel for “The Amazing Spider-Man”, footage was shown which presented a much grimmer and grittier take on the Spiderman origin story. While similar to the first film in that Spiderman is once again a vigilante being chased by the law, this reinterpretation of the series appeared more graphic than the previous films as we saw a much more disturbed, angst-ridden Peter Parker battling his inner demons, while struggling to accept his genetic mutation after the difficult loss of his Uncle Ben.

Footage of the film’s main villain, The Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans), was finally shown which looked to be a throwback to the original comic book design by Steve Ditko. The scene started out with two girls in a bathroom stall talking about their breakups, suddenly being interrupted by the toilet collapsing through the ground. An enormous hand reaches out of the hole as The Lizard climbs out, tramps toward the girls, sniffs them, and flails out his gigantic tongue. To describe his appearance, the shape of the head looks more humanoid without the pronounced jaw you’d see from an actual lizard. He also exhibits green scales, snakelike yellow eyes, and a massively muscular build closely resembling Killer Croc from the video game, Batman: Arkham Asylum. Here is Steve Ditko’s original art for The Lizard. Beef that up, and you’ll see what I’m talking about…
