Hi fellow readers. I was given a great opportunity by Angry Web to write about DC Comics and talk about The New 52 as someone who has never really been into comics before.

Let me start off by introducing myself. I was raised with cartoons, comic books, fairytales, and characters beyond my imagination. As time went by, I grew out of these things and lost what I was proud to call my imagination.

Sonic the Hedgehog became just a cartoon; Power Rangers was just a kid’s shows; and heroes with powers looked too silly. Now I am in my mid 20’s and realized that you can never be too young or old to look up to heroes. Companies like Marvel, Disney, and DC Comics gave me that imagination and inspiration to believe again…believe in heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and so forth.

Since this is my first time coming back (after many years of not being in the comic book scene), I would like to talk about The New 52. This is a great opportunity for those who have never been into comic books or have lost a sense of their childhood (someone like me who would like to gain it back!) to get to know amazing heroes and villains and experience remarkable artwork. So lets get started.

So far I have read Batman and Robin #1, Justice League #1, Batgirl #1, Action Comic #1, Batwoman #1, Detective Comics #1, and Green Lantern #1. Don’t worry…I won’t spoil anything. So far I am impressed! Each series starts with great action and origin stories from our favorite heroes. The illustrations in each panel are detailed enough where the readers can truly see and feel the characters emotions and thought process. At one point I screamed out in the middle of Starbucks while reading the Green Lantern comic book because I felt like I was a part of the scene (yes…it was embarrassing).

What I enjoy the most about reading these particular series is the diversity of each character. There are heroes that can fly, use awesome gadgets, have mysterious powers, are young and old and work as a team or alone.

Moving along, each comic book doesn’t have a happily ever after. The moment you get sucked in and curious in what’s next, you realize that your fingertips can’t turn another page because the story is “to be continued”. That is when you are left alone with your own imagination to see what moves the heroes will make next. If thinking like that turns me into a nerd, then so be it. I look forward in reading this week’s series! I will keep you all posted!

To be continued.
