As a long time Sony fanboy, I vowed never to buy another Xbox 360 after mine died on me a little over a year ago. I had never been into the “Halo” series and I loved “Gears of War” 1 and 2, but didn’t feel it was worth buying a new console for the 3rd installment. Everything else that I liked was on the PlayStation 3 and allowed me to play online without a monthly fee.
Fast forward to this past Summer to where we visited E3 and was given the chance to learn a bit more about GoW 3 and check out a hands-on demo. Of course I knew I couldn’t go without finishing the saga and an email from Amazon offered me a $100 credit for ordering the new slim Xbox 360 with Kinect…I caved.
Here I am, a brand new Xbox and no games to play. I repurchased GoW 1&2 and replayed them to gear up for today’s released. Mission accomplished.
I came home today to a package from my Amazon preorder. Now we here at Angry Web are on quite a few media lists but unfortunately, Microsoft is not one of them so we had no choice but to bargain shop this game.
I have been playing it since. Now done with 2 chapters (of 5), GoW 3 has all the workings of an amazing game. The graphics and gameplay have been polished further from the prior 2, the frame rate is much better and the game is much more story driven.
GoW 3 has a ton of dialogue and the title I feared would be a linear 3rd person shooter, has actually proven to have a lot of substance. The Cog bro-mance really makes you care about the characters and what they’re going through and so far, the game is everything I have expected and more.
This is a must-have for “Gears of War” fans and Xbox fans in general. There isn’t much available cross platform these days so GoW 3 really stands out as a key exclusive title.
We will do a full review once we complete the campaign and rack up some hours in multiplayer. What do you think of it so far?
