Seth Grahame-Smith on “Beetlejuice 2″

New York Times bestselling author of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, Seth Grahame-Smith, is a huge fan of Tim Burton’s work. He wrote the script for Burton’s film adaptation of “Dark Shadows” and Burton produced the lackluster film adaptation of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”.

What some may not know is that Grahame-Smith will also be working on the sequel to the 1988 film “Beetlejuice”…and fans aren’t very happy about that.

I think the magic ingredient is trying not to over do it. Not to make it some crazy, overblown big Beetlejuice Saves the World type of story. Frankly, Beetlejuice himself is only in the original movie for about a half hour. I think using him sparingly is key. And not trying to make it so modern, family friendly and broad but to cling to the things that made it a little dangerous.

And obviously we’re not remaking the movie or rebooting it. It would be a sequel, and however much time has passed between the two movies, that’s the amount of time that will have passed in the story.

So what can we expect from “Beetlejuice 2″? It’s tough to say now that over 20 years will be separating the 2 films with a new audience, writer and potentially, a new star.
