Today Nintendo has released the price points and release date for the Wii U. As expected, the new console from Nintendo will ship just before the holidays on November 18, 2012. The video game industry typically tends to release their large titles in the month of November to give people plenty of time to put it on their holiday wish list.
There will be 2 price points for the Wii U. The Wii U Basic will cost $299.00 and the Wii U Deluxe will be $349.00. The Basic will come in white and have 8GB of onboard storage where as the Deluxe model will come in black and have 32GB of storage.
I have played the Wii U 2 years in a row at E3 here in Los Angeles and I was expecting a price point along the lines of $199.00 and $249.00. Common with Nintendo, the hardware seems to be using older technology which has helped them keep prices low with respect to it’s competition.
After having to lower the price of the Nintendo 3DS shortly after it’s release, we may just be seeing something similar happen with the Wii U as the price seems a bit high for what you’re actually getting in terms of hardware (8GB Nintendo…really?).
Will you be buying a Nintendo Wii U at launch or will you be holding off?
