It’s OK to be gay in “Star Wars: The Old Republic”…as long as you stay on your own planet

Jeff Hickman, executive producer of “Star Wars: The Old Republic”, has announced Bioware’s plans to allow same sex relationships in an upcoming expansion pack titled “Rise of the Hutt Cartel”. Players who chose to create a homosexual character will be restricted to their own planet where flirtatious emotes can be used towards players of the same sex.

There has been a clash of opinions on the plan to allow same sex romance in “Star Wars: The Old Republic”. Some gamers feel it uncomfortable stating that “Star Wars” has always been a family friendly environment and this will taint that noting that it will cause many players to leave.

Others feel that it’s a step in the right direction and that it’s time for games to be a little bit more open when it comes to different lifestyles.

Either way, online games cover their grounds with a vague ESRB rating which allows changes like this to take place without having to change the intended age group of a title.

How do you feel about Bioware’s decision to allow same sex relationships in “Star Wars: The Old Republic”?
