It was announced today that the next title in the Arkham series would be released later this year (October 25th to be exact).
“Batman: Arkham Origins” will be a prequel story to “Batman: Arkham Asylum” and :Batman: Arkham City”. It is set to release on all major consoles and PC.
Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, the first two critically acclaimed games of the franchise. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships.
What’s also nice is that they will be releasing another title for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita titled “Arkham Origins Blackgate”. According to Warner Bros.
“Arkham Origins Blackgate” will be a companion game to “Batman: Arkham Origins” in which players can continue the storyline of the console version and discover more details of the Dark Knight’s past.
Now the part a lot of fans may not be too excited about. These titles will not be produced by the same company that brought us Asylum and City. Rocksteady, who gained notoriety with the production of the first two games, will be out of the picture and WB Games Montréal will be handling Origins.
The game developers don’t have much of a track record outside of the Wii U port of “Arkham City” so it’s tough to know what to expect at this point.
We will bring more details as we get them and be sure to bring you coverage from this year’s E3 in Los Angeles.
