“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” opened strong this past weekend and broke box office records for best April film release with $96.2 million in ticket sales.

Though the film has only been in theaters for 3 days, Marvel has already announced a release date for their 3rd installment in the “Captain America” series.

According to a press release from the studio, “Captain America 3” is set to release on May 6, 2016.

The release date makes it perfect for the Summer movie season but the motive behind the date is questionable. May 6, 2016 is also the announced date for the “Batman vs. Superman” movie (the sequel to “Man of Steel”).

Studios typically like space out the release of blockbuster movies in order to capitalize on box office sales.

With a showdown between Marvel (Disney) and DC Comics (Warner Bros.), one can only wonder how this will cannibalize tickets sales and which film will come out victorious.

Fans will be able to catch Chris Evans portray Captain America before “Captain America 3” next year in “Avengers Age of Ultron”.
