An interview with Swedish website TT Spektra has revealed that actor Stellen Skarsgard will have a role in the upcoming comic book movie adaptaton, “Thor”. Here’s a rough translation of his interview:
Stellan Skarsgård is ready for a role in action movie “Thor.”
Everything is still secret about the project and Skarsgård can not reveal what role he will play.
“They wanted me to sign without reading the script. That I refused to do. Then they sent one to me that was so coded that I could only print one copy,” said Stellan Skarsgård to TT spectra.
Some time ago it was said that Stellan Skarsgård’s son, Alexander Skarsgård, was on his way to the title role in “Thor.” In the end however, it became Chris Hemsworth, known for “Star Trek,” who got the job.
“Thor” will be directed by Kenneth Branagh and will star Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore and Samuel L. Jackson. Paramount is currently aiming for a May 20, 2011 release date.
The role of Kato in Michel Gondry’s “The Green Hornet” has finally been cast and has been given to Asian singer and actor Jay Chou.
Michel Gondry said the following:
Jay is incredibly unique and charming and fights like a wild dog! When I filmed him next to Seth, they had such great chemistry, and I knew the movie will be great.
Chou also expressed the following:
It’s an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee. I won’t try to be Bruce Lee’s Kato – I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it’s a dream role, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
What do you guys think about Chou taking on the role of Kato?
“The Green Hornet” is scheduled for a July 9th, 2010 release.
Angry Web will be attending Comic-Con International this year and providing extensive coverage over some of its major film, television, and video game panels as well as its special screenings. We hope to post complete transcriptions and photos of the panels on a daily basis so stay tuned!
The latest from Variety states that Nicolas Cage is in talks with Columbia Pictures to play the main gangster villain in Michel Gondry’s film adaptation of “The Green Hornet”. We also mentioned earlier that Cameron Diaz was auditioning for a role and it’s now been revealed that she will play a reported and love interest. As for Kato, the studio is still looking for a replacement after rumors about Stephen Chow taking on the part were ultimately dismissed.
Nic Cage, Cameron Diaz, and Seth Rogen in…”The Green Hornet”! Enter “Flight of the Bumblebee” on trumpet. Wow…we’d love to hear your guys’ opinions on this project so far.
“The Green Hornet” is aiming to start production this fall with a July 9, 2010 release.
With Ian Holm not reprising his “Lord of the Rings” role as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro’s “The Hobbit”, casting news has begun to surface with 3 names in the running. Rumored to take on the role are actors David Tennant (Dr. Who), James McAvoy (Wanted), and Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, obviously).
Peter Jackson is expected to make an appearance at Comic-Con next week, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he discussed more about this. While David Tennant and James MacAvoy seem to be fair candidates for the role, I really doubt there’s any truth to Daniel Radcliffe being in the running considering his plans for smaller roles after the Harry Potter films wrap up. Plus, while he must be one of the richest teenagers in the world, I certainly do not want to see Harry Potter entering the realm of Middle Earth.
Natalie Portman has been confirmed for a part in Kenneth Branagh’s big-screen adaptation, “Thor”, next to Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. Portman will play love interest Jane Foster, a nurse to Donald Blake, Thor’s alter ego.
In the comics, Jane Foster learns about Donald Blake’s true identity and becomes his first love as she follows him to Asgard. The character is reported to be updated for the feature adaptation.
Marvel has posted a press release revealing the synopsis for the film:
“Marvel Studios expands its film universe with a new type of superhero: Thor. This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.”
“Thor” is scheduled to being principal photography in early 2010, aiming for a May 20, 2011 release date.
Over the past few months, news continued to surface about actor Stephen Chow’s part in director Michel Gondry’s big-screen adaptation of “The Green Hornet”. This included Chow’s plans to play sidekick/chauffeur, Kato to actually directing the project. Chow eventually decided not to direct the project, but remained firm on starring in the film. Writer, producer, and actor Seth Rogen had even expressed that Chow was just as likely to be Kato as ever.
According to a recently released casting call, this may not be the case after all:
[KATO] ALL ASIAN ETHNICITIES, Male, 20’s – early 40’s. Brit Reid’s manservant/chauffeur by day and Green Hornet’s martial arts-skilled sidekick by night. Actor doesn’t have to have Martial Arts experience.
Yes, you read that right – “ALL ASIAN ETHNICITIES…Actor doesn’t have to have Martial Arts experience.” We are casting for the part that martial arts legend Bruce Lee played, are we not? Honestly, Hollywood, what in the world is going on with casting these days? It’s like they aren’t even trying anymore…eh, so what if the guy can’t fight; we’ll hire a stunt man and add some flashy sound effects. As for them considering all Asian ethnicities, I guess it’s not a terrible idea, although I can see that a sizable proportion of Chinese audiences will be somewhat bothered. On the other hand, there are plenty of lesser known Asian actors out there who can still kick ass on screen. Tony Jaa might even be a nice choice for the role. Any other suggestions?
I suppose this gives us an idea of the direction Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen are taking this film, though it’s likely not the direction many fans might’ve hoped for. We’re looking at what’s expected to be a superhero action film starring Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, and a passing Asian who can’t throw a decent punch – I wouldn’t be surprised if Stephen Chow said “To hell with this project, it’s time for Kung Fu Hustle 2.” Tell us what you guys think about this project.
