AW Movie Review: The Avengers

avengers 530x228 AW Movie Review: The Avengers

Let the summer superhero blockbuster movies begin! Marvel kicks off every moviegoer’s favorite season with the witty, action-packed flick that so many of us have been waiting for, The Avengers.

With 5 years of planning and 5 movies doing a pretty fantastic job of building up this movie, The Avengers has finally been released into theaters nationwide. With so much riding on the line, it’s easy for a highly anticipated movie to fall flat of many of the fan’s expectations. However, fanboys need not worry. Marvel’s The Avengers is a phenomenal movie.

So lets get to the basics. The Avengers is equal parts drama, action, and comedy and a movie that anybody can enjoy, whether you are an avid comic book reader or not.

The movie begins where all of the previous movies left off. This includes Iron Man 2, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, and, most closely, Thor. A familiar threat to the moviegoer audience, Loki, has returned with the help of an alien race all too familiar to fans of the comic books, the Chitauri. With the conniving mastermind at the helm of an army of aliens, S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury is forced to assemble a team to combat this threat. However, things do not always go so smoothly when you bring together an old-fashioned soldier from a past time, a billionaire-philanthropist and genius playboy with Narcissistic traits, the Norse God of Thunder that is always quick to rush into battle, a highly intelligent gamma radiation specialist with a dark side, and a former Russian spy with a piece of her past still haunting her. ready by tenshinosekai d425jsq 530x302 Angry Girl Of The Week: Angela

So I’m sure many of you realized we haven’t had an Angry Girl the past couple of weeks due to some unforeseen circumstances. To make up for it, we have an amazing girl this week ho comes to us all the way from Costa Rica.

Her outfits are top notch and her twist on Heath Ledger’s Joker is genius. We are very proud to introduce Angela to in this weeks edition of Angry Girls!

simply irresistible by tenshinosekai d2w8s9z Angry Girl Of The Week: AngelaName: Angela Bermúdez a.k.a Tenshi

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am 23 years old, born on march 19. Art is my passion, design and fashion are part of my life as well. One of favorite hobbies is to spend time playing with my friends and making photoshoots. My idea now is to focus more in painting and music, oil painting is my favorite technique, music is something I have left behind quite a while ago but I recall it dearly and would like to retake it.

What do you like to do for fun?
Listen to retro music, play videogames with my friends, drawing, sewing, painting and anything that has to do with art.

What do you (want to) do for a living?
Getting my ideas on the canvas, setting up photoshoots and couture, Im a simple girl who wants to make art.

What type of video games, TV shows and movies do you like?
I love shooters but I suck with the joystick, I’m a better headshoter on the pc icon biggrin Angry Girl Of The Week: Angela

Also, love the figthing games, actually my friends always choose Mortal Kombat, but I prefer Marvel vs Capcom, and Soul Calibur… I miss them :v

The game that I love, and always will, is Metal Gear Solid 3.

I dont like to spend time watching movies or tv, but I enjoy some comedy shows and cartoons, also action and terror movies.

What is your favorite comic book?
I love the art of Steve McNiven on “Wolverine: Old Man Logan”

Tell us something interesting about you.
I was a sleepwalker and I have a husband. I also have a feature on Metal Gear Solid web and Playstation Official Magazine UK <3

Why did you decide to dress like the characters you portray?
I like to spend some time visiting my friends and play some videogames at their places, this increased my interest in videogame characters of course. It is very important knowing them, I like to choose characters that have captivated me in some way, I also analyze the costume and character design to see if I can make it as similar as possible.

Anything else we should know about you?
I am not a model and I don’t get paid for it. I just do it as a hobby, just like cosplay, and I like to design clothes and model them myself icon smile Angry Girl Of The Week: Angela

This week we are proud to introduce you to Kelly.

Kelly may be a bit of a geek but the fact that she taught Tae Kwon Do in Korea can only account for her toughness. She studies theater in Southern California which aides her cosplay hobby and she knows her video games and comic books better than your average female college student and we are proud to introduce you to the lovely Kelly.

headshot 1 by eclecticmaniac d39q61n 530x662 Angry Girl Of The Week: KellyName: Kelly Ruiz

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am currently a theater student at University of California, Irvine.  I am studying and honoring in costume design although I also perform in Musical Theater and Jazz. I have been cosplaying since 2000, over ten years now, and it is one of my favorite hobbies. Video games and comics have also followed me throughout my life and I started watching anime in middle school. Nowadays I still enjoy my old hobbies but have also adopted Jrock and Lolita as pastimes.

What do you like to do for fun?
I have many, MANY hobbies, hence the name EclecticManiac. Some of these include cosplay, anime, comics, video games, reading, animals, reptiles, sewing, singing, dancing, sports, and drawing. I also lived in Korea and taught Tae Kwon Do. I LOVE martial arts <3

What do you want to do for a living?
Besides freelance Costume Design, I work at UC Irvine’s costume shop as a stitcher, South Coast rep as an assistant to the wig master, and TGIF as a server. My dream jobs though, include being a full time costume designer, singing on Broadway, being a rockstar in Japan, and being a Veterinarian with a specialist in Herpetology.

What type of video games, TV shows and movies do you like?
RPGs are my favorite type of game and Zelda as well as Final Fantasy are my favorite series. I am also completely partial to Pokemon, hehehe!  The Nintendo DS Light is actually my favorite platform because it ports all of the classic and amazing rpgs as well as release amazing new titles. I watch all kinds of shows and anime but my all time faves include Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena Warrior Princess. Star trek is held dear to my heart as well though and I love new shows like Supernatural too. There are so many movies I love and I own over 1000 DVDs so it’s hard to choose my favorites but ones that stick out to me are John Carpenter’s The Thing, Edward Scissorhands and Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke.

What is your favorite comic book?
My favorite comics stem mostly from image and Michael Turner- rest his soul- is my favorite artist.  Some of my favorite titles include Witchblade, Fathom, and Soulfire. I AM OBSESSED WITH ROBIN though, so I also favor DC. Someday I would have liked to cosplay every Robin costume EVER,

Tell us something interesting about yourself.
One fact I find extremely amusing about myself is that I can consume a whole watermelon in one hour! In general I have  a hyper active, optimistic personality, and am a total social butterfly.

Why did you decide to cosplay as the characters you portrayed?
I cosplay different outfits for different reasons and it’s so hard to pick a favorite one, but I mostly choose what cosplay based of these reasons: I either love the design of the costume, love the character, love a pairing or do it for my friends so that we can all cosplay in a group together. I think overall though I love cosplaying the derpiest characters the best XD

Anything else we should know about you?
I think I covered it all. Cosplay, video games and fashion are definitely what I’m all about and I love it! OH! I also own a 25 lb monster of a cat names Godzilla whom I love.

“Harry Potter” Wizard’s Collection now available for pre order

71hL6 VAshL. AA1500 530x530 Harry Potter Wizards Collection now available for pre order

Hey Harry Potter fans! Do you have $449 you’re looking to blow on a Blu Ray box set? If not, you’re not alone.

This week, Amazon started taking pre orders on the “Harry Potter” Wizard’s Collection. After a $50 price break, fans can expect to spend $449 on this set and fans are not happy about it. Similar to what we saw with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy being released on Blu Ray without the extended versions and the “Star Wars” Blu Rays being released as the special editions, this product has already racked up over 50 1 star ratings and I’m sure this is just the beginning of fans being vocal about an over priced box set which offers little incentive to buy.

The HP Wizard’s Collection includes the following movies and features:

  • Contains 31 discs, inclusive of all content ever previously released, in addition to over 5 hours of never before seen special features, in a limited and numbered edition.
  • 18 movie discs
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Theatrical Version and Extended Cut
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Theatrical Version and Extended Cut
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 2D and 3D Versions
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 2D and 3D Versions
  • 13 Special feature discs
  • Includes multiple specially-produced, collectible memorabilia items, including concept art, a Map of Hogwarts and much more!

Angry Girl Of The Week: Samantha

Posted by Daniel Nasserian On March - 7 - 2012

Ivy by smcose 530x797 Angry Girl Of The Week: Samantha

This week we are featuring another pinup girl with a hint of nerd in her.

Samantha is a classic beauty with a classic soul who was dared into cosplaying. What started as a love of Batman and a Halloween costume quickly turned into a hobby.  Thankfully for us (and you), Samantha’s personality qualifies her to be this week’s Angry Girl and we are proud to feature her on our site!

Angry Girl Of The Week: SamanthaName: Samantha Samsam
Age:  27

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am your girl next door, who happens to be a redhead, and a huge fan of pinup and most things retro, and a hint of nerd.

What do you like to do for fun?
Just hanging out with friends is what I enjoy most. Throw in some good food, and drinks, and I could not be happier. I love a game night, board games actually. I kick butt in Uno, but I am horrible at Monopoly. I am a girly girl at heart though, so I will gladly head out to a tea house with lace gloves any time!  This year, I am trying to fit in some new adventures to mix it up a bit.  So far I have learned to shoot, tight rope walked, but I am not sure what my next outing will be.

What do you want to do for a living?
I am studying to become a Paralegal… I plan on continuing school into some more law once I get my degree. Although, I would love to play dress up full time, and pay the mortgage that way!

What type of video games, music, TV shows and movies do you like?
I do not have a “type”, but I do have favorites. I have an odd range. The Big Bang Theory, and Mad Men are my go to TV shows that I make sure to watch every week. I also have a school girl crush on Jim Parsons, so I keep tuning in.

Music, from Norah Jones, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews Band, even a hint of Britney Spears, though my fall back seems to be more of an alternative genre. My tastes are pretty eclectic, but they do not include much hip hop (beyond a few Jay Z songs mixed in) and any Country.

As for video games, I am an old school Mario type of girl, and Tetris, I love Tetris and puzzle games. Some part of my brain will not allow me to figure out newer games that are more 3D, and not just moving in one direction. I tried playing Halo and Call of Duty, and I just get my character trapped in a corner staring at the sky.

What is your favorite comic book?
The Walking Dead. After watching the show, I was shocked I fell in love with it. I am not a big horror fan, but this captured me. Once the season was over, I needed to fill the void, so I picked up the trades. The story is compelling, and not as much about Zombies, but the people trying to get on with life.

Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I am actually very shy and awkward in person. It takes me a little while to warm up and let out parts of my personality to people I do not know. This is why I enjoy working at events and jobs where I am forced to talk to people, it force me to come out of my shell a bit.

I also have very crooked fingers, you will never see my hands in an ad for Dawn dish soap.

Why did you decide to dress like any characters you portray?
It started as a dare. My Poison Ivy costume was one I made for Halloween. I have a heart for Batman, my dad took me to all the movies as a kid, and we watched the reruns on TV. I even loved the lame 90′s neon ridden movies. After Halloween, a few friends started daring me to wear it to a convention, knowing how shy and horrified I would be to do it. It turns out, I loved playing dress up for the day! I love making things, and it gave me a way to expand on my crafting skills, so I keep going with it.

You can see more of Samantha’s costumes and pinup shots on her website.

AW Game Review: “Street Fighter X Tekken”

Posted by Joey Menella On March - 5 - 2012

tekken x street fighter 00 530x297 AW Game Review: Street Fighter X Tekken

Last night in downtown Los Angeles, Capcom held the launch party for Street Fighter X Tekken. Tucked away in an abandoned bank vault, 1000 gamers played the new game on over 50 stations complete with Madcatz custom arcade sticks. A special appearance was also made by Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono, who signed posters and mingled with fans. After recently joining the large community of horrid Marvel Vs. Capcom players I was a little curious as to how the new Street Fighter X Tekken would play out. I was kind of surprised to see how Capcom took elements from both Street Fighter 4 and Marvel Vs. Capcom to make a more strategic fighting game.

The first thing you will notice in the menu screen is having to pick two primary characters as opposed to three in Marvel Vs. Capcom. However, you must alternate between your characters frequently for both combos and survival. My first fight ended with Ryu getting his ass handed to him by Akuma, not a big deal at the time since I had my partner, Major Bison, ready to takeover for him. WRONG. The moment one of your characters die it is round over, unlike Marvel Vs. Capcom that let’s you use all three fighters lives. So does this mean the end fighting games as we know it? No it sure doesn’t, in fact I actually really, really, really liked it.. A lot.

The user interface is not too different from what fans of Street Fighter IV or Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 have come to expect. Fans of these series will find this title familiar and should have no problem finding a match online easily or deciding to play through the story mode. Like the other titles, you can take advantage of the feature that allows you to be challenged while playing through the story mode.

The gameplay has the old arcade fighting style feel to it while throwing in opportunities for combos and counter attacks if you can time them just right. But the biggest improvement to the series would have to be the addition of the gem stones. There are 52 Boost gems and 5 Assist gems, for a total of 75 gems in the game. You’ll have the ability to equip three gems at a time, and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. In the game you’ll be able to select any combination of the Assist gems, which give you bonuses that are always activated while they’re equipped. Meanwhile, Boost gems provided a stat increase in one of five areas: attack, defense, speed, cross gauge acquisition, and vitality. However, Boost gems require a specific condition to be met in order to be activated.

With Street Fighter X Tekken leading the way for Capcom’s spring takeover with games like Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City and Dragon’s Dogma, the gaming season is off to a great start. Street Fighter X Tekken comes out next week on March 6 for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Recently announced was a portable version of the game with touch controls heading to the Playstation Vita this fall complete with 12 bonus characters. Last night at the event it was confirmed that the bonus characters from the Vita version of the game will be released for the consoles, but info on how will released later on.

eevee9 Angry Girl Of The Week: JeanneName: Jeanne Killjoy
Age: 21

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I am a full time student, alternative model and cosplayer from the NJ/NY/PA area. I’m currently going to school for Radio/TV/Film, and love working both in front of and behind the camera. I’ve been modeling since I was a kid when my mom would take me to NYC every week, but I recently got back into alternative modeling about 3 years ago. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a ton of talented designers, photographers, and models, but one of my biggest accomplishments was being able to model and walk in a runway for Japanese designers from S-Inc. I’ve been dancing for 16 years. I don’t get the chance to dance much anymore, but I go-go for events and stage kitten for burlesque shows every now and again. I’ve been playing piano for 14 years, and playing guitar for 8 years. I’m an avid writer and have been working on a novel that I ended up turning into a treatment for a film class of mine. I’ve been playing video games ever since my hands were able to figure out how a controller worked. I think some of my first games were Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country. I think the rest of this question will be answered in the next question xD

What do you like to do for fun?:
For fun, I like to read, write, cosplay, play music and video games, go ghost hunting, dance, hang out with friends, especially at conventions, and watch old TV shows on Netflix.

What do you want to do for a living?:
Right now I’m in school for Radio/TV/Film and Journalism. Ideally, I would love to be able to work on a music, video game, or fashion related show, either in front of or behind the camera. I’ve gotten really into the production and writing side of TV and Film lately. I wouldn’t mind going to Japan for a bit to make horror films as well.

What type of video games, music, TV shows and movies do you like?:
This is such an in depth question; I can tell this is going to be a long answer xD. For video games, my genre of choice is fighting games. I like entering tournaments or just playing for fun. BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Tekken, DOA, Arcana Hearts, and Soul Calibur are a few that I play often. I even enjoy the oldies like Killer Instinct. Other than fighting games, I like playing Atlus games such as the Persona 3 and 4, Catherine, Devil Survivor and Devil Summoner. Hmm, I liked playing The World Ends With You. I’m a sucker for all of the Pokemon games. I’m really looking forward to Soul Calibur V and the Persona fighting game since it’s combining two of my favorite things.

As for music, I love almost everything. My favorite genre is punk. Green Day has been my favorite band for as long as I can remember. I also like alternative, industrial, pop, and just about anything that isn’t country lol

I don’t really watch too much TV anymore but I do keep up with a few animes like Persona 4. I am obsessed with the Vampire Diaries. I’ve been watching WWE wrestling since I was 3 when my dad got me into it. Almost 18 years later and I’m still watching Monday night Raw. I also like America’s Next Top Model, The Secret Circle, and watching re-runs of Buffy, SpongeBob, Power Rangers, and X-Men. I’m a history buff so I love watching documentaries too.

Hmm for movies, I love horror/paranormal films. I also love my comedy, and I can honestly say that White Chicks is my absolute favorite movie ever.

What is your favorite comic book?:
I’ve always been a huge X-Men fan. I’m not sure I can pick a favorite from the series, but maybe The Uncanny X-Men. It’s hard to choose! I also like Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales.

Why did you decide to dress like any characters you portray?:
It really varies from character to character. Sometimes I see myself in some of the characters and want to portray that. Sometimes it’s because it’s a character I play in a fighting game. Sometimes I just see it as a fun/favorite character that I would have fun portraying. No matter the reason for portraying the character, I enjoy cosplaying and cosplay modeling because I get to be a completely different person for each shoot. I feel like I’m doing the character justice by properly portraying the character, not just physically, but with my actions and poses as well.

Tell us something interesting about yourself:
Interesting? Hmm, well I think I’m the only person I know with dermal piercings around my belly button. I got pulled on stage to dance with the Adicts when I saw them in NYC in ’11. Other than that, I think it’s pretty interesting that I’m barely 5’0 and have been doing runway. Short girls! You have a chance afterall! xD

Anything else we should know about you?:
You can find out more about me and see more pics on my Facebook page.
