It was announced that the Nintendo 3DS would be dropping in price from $249.99 to $169.99.

This price drop has a lot of people wondering, is Nintendo struggling? Unfortunately, this could be the case. In its initial release the 3DS didn’t have the jump out of the gate that Nintendo was expecting it to have.

Does this mean that the 3DS is on track to be the next Virtual Boy? It almost seems that the low sales have pushed Nintendo to cut the price to avoid that very scenario. But with its library of downloadable games I don’t think the 3DS will go the way of the Virtual Boy. And lets be honest downloadable games are more than likely the wave of the future. I know that with this price drop I will be thinking a lot harder about going and getting the system. The price drop officially goes into affect August 12th. What do you think? Will you be buying a 3DS at the new low price? Let us know!

UPDATE: For you angry early adopters who paid fullprice, Nintendo will be giving you 10 free NEW downloadable games and 10 free GBA downloadable games. Does this make up for it?

As a huge fan of the “Resident Evil” franchise, you could only imagine my excitement when I found out there would be a 3D version coming out on Nintendo’s 3DS system. After playing it at E3 this year, it was one of the many titles I looked forward to dropping some hard earned money on and playing this year…that was until I found out how the save system works.

Like most gamers, once my room gets saturated with plastic gaming boxes, I like to put them on eBay or give them to friends. Well that won’t be the case with “Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D”. REM3D’s save system does not allow the user to overwrite their game save file rendering it useless to anyone else that plays the game after you, and thus, killing the resell value.

One of the best features of Nintendo’s new handheld was the ability to save games on the included SD card so games could be shared and even rented from services like GameFly. What Capcom has done is just plain…well, evil.

I have sent in a few questions to my contact at Capcom and hopefully will get some answers to update this post with but until then, I will be boycotting this title in hopes it won’t become the new industry standard for publishers.

We were fortunate enough to attend the Konami press conference as part of our 2011 E3 coverage.

Konami started off by announcing a Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3 and XBOX 360. This collection includes Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 as well as Peace Walker. One of the technologies Konami will be using, called transfarring, allows PS3 users to play Peace Walker on their console then pick up exactly where they left off on their PSP. This will make it so no progress is lost between cross platform titles. Konami will be using this technology moving forward.

We will also be seeing an MGS game for the Nintendo 3DS titles Snake Eater 3D this year and Metal Gear Solid Rising in 2012.

Another collection they announced was the Zone of the Enders HD collection which will be released sometime in 2012 and a portable Silent Hill game, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, will be coming to the PlayStation NGP.

Finally, the audience was teased with a trailer for a Contra game though no specifics were detailed.

Be sure to keep up with Angry Web for full E3 coverage all next week.

Thanks to our writer Joey Menella for covering the event.

If you’re as excited as I am about the Green Lantern movie hitting theaters nationwide this Summer, than you might be interested in the Green Lantern game which is set to release on June 7, 2011. “The Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters” is the character’s debut on the Nintendo 3DS and on home consoles.

Burbank, Calif. – March 24, 2011 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced their debut title for the Nintendo 3DS™ handheld system: Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters. The action-adventure game will also be released in 3D, as well as 2D, for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is set to invade the third dimension in North America beginning June 7 in conjunction with Warner Bros. Pictures’ epic superhero feature film Green Lantern scheduled for release June 17. The upcoming game title will also be available in standard 2D only for the Wii™ system and Nintendo DS™ handheld system, delivering an immersive experience across all platforms for Green Lantern fans that the entire family will enjoy.

The Nintendo 3DS version of the game is designed specifically to take advantage of the system’s stereoscopic 3D capabilities and deliver multi-plane graphics that delve players further into the Green Lantern universe.

Players on Xbox 360 and PS3™ will be given the option to play in anaglyphic 3D with technology that is compatible with all standard and high definition TV sets and visible to players wearing the 3D glasses that will be available for the video game. Fans can also enjoy the game in stereoscopic 3D when playing on any 3D HDTV while wearing active shutter glasses that are compatible with the television.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is inspired by Warner Bros Pictures’ upcoming “Green Lantern” film, which brings the enduringly popular DC Comics Super Hero to the big screen for the first time and stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role as Hal Jordan, the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps. In the videogame, gamers can utilize an arsenal of amazing constructs and take flight across the deepest parts of the universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern Power Ring. Gamers playing the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions will also have the option to join forces with a friend to play as Hal Jordan or Sinestro to battle the Manhunters.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is in development for Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS by Griptonite Games and for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by Double Helix Games. For more information and updates, become a fan at http://www.facebook.com/GreenLanternVideogame.

While surfing the iPhone app store today, I came across the Gameloft publication “Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles”. It was announced the game was in production but there was no set release date or price to accompany the information.

Since there are no reviews on this application yet I’m going to assume it was released within the past day or so. Here are a few screen shots to give you an idea of what you can expect should you decide to drop the $9.99 for this game. All I can say as of now is that it looks better than a DS game and plays pretty smoothly too. Whoever says Apple is not in the gaming industry is certainly off their rocker. It’s nice to see the U.S. embrace the mobile gaming market. Now I don’t have to be so jealous of the Japanese when a mobile “Final Fantasy” title comes out.

As a longtime fan of all things Batman, I always get worried when I hear that the Caped Crusader will be making his way onto a gaming console. Fortunately, “LEGO Batman” hit store shelves last week and squashed some of those fears for me.

Within the first minute of the game, Batman enthusiasts will be hit with a sense of nostalgia. Revealing familiar environments recreated in LEGO pieces set to Danny Elfman’s score from Tim Burton’s 1989 version of Batman, fans will feel right at home.

For those who have had the chance to get their hands on “LEGO Star Wars” or “LEGO Indiana Jones”, you will find a very similar style of gameplay. There is not much of a learning curve to the controls and anyone can pretty much join in on the fun without fretting the technicalities of a complex game.

The changes “LEGO Batman” made from prior LEGO titles are what make this game stand out above the rest. Since “LEGO Star Wars” and “LEGO Indiana Jones” were direct translations of the movies that bare their name, it left for predictability. “LEGO Batman” has no direct ties to any existing storyline so it feels like a new adventure all together.

Another major change that can be found in “LEGO Batman” is the utilization of vehicles. Like its predecessors, the game consists of 3 major acts. Each act in “LEGO Batman” has a level devoted to vehicle gameplay that will allow you to take your fight to land, air and sea. It creates a diversity that prevents the gameplay from become redundant and keeps the game interesting from beginning to end.

The only real problem with this game is that it’s not for everybody…wait, yes it is! Anyone from children to adults, hardcore gamers to casual gamers, and Batman fans will enjoy this title. There is a vast cast of characters that Batman fans will be familiar with including almost every popular villain that Batman has ever faced. The game sports an adaptive difficulty that will adjust to the skill level of the gamer so it won’t be too challenging for anyone.

The graphics are good for what the game is trying to accomplish meaning that it is comprised of mostly geometric shapes and nothing too risky. The game looks especially good on the high definition consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 but again, you won’t see anything as intricate as rendered facial expressions.

The bottom line is this game is extremely fun. Whether you want to hop on and play tandem with your AI partner or Co-Op with a friend, you are bound to enjoy your time on “LEGO Batman”. It has a ton of unlockables that add replay value to the game and it is priced right at $49.99 USD on the PS3 and Xbox 360, which is $10.00 cheaper than most new releases. I recommend “LEGO Batman” to anyone who is looking to purchase a game for the sole purpose of having fun with one of the most timeless super heroes of our era.
