ThisJuly we will be seeing new 12 inch statues and busts of Batman, Bane and Catwoman from the upcoming movie, “The Dark Knight Rises”. The film opens in theaters and IMAX on July 20,2012.

If you’re in or around the Los Angeles area, or don’t mind making the trip over for the first weekend in November, then make it a point to get to the Los Angeles Convention Center where the Comikaze expo will be bringing you the best in comics, gaming, Sci-Fi, Horror and more!
Comikaze is an affordable expo, at only $12 per person, in which proceeds will be donated to charity. With the San Diego Comic Con just a couple of hours away from Los Angeles, it’s been tough to get a decent convention together for the L.A. based geeks and this may be the opportunity we’ve been waiting for.
Comikaze will have a ton of guests from the comic book, movie and TV industry, including the guests of honor, Stan Lee and Elvira! If that doesn’t excite you, then you should probably just stop visiting our site altogether.
You can read more about the details of the event and attending guests on their site at comikazeexpo.com. We look forward to seeing you there!
It wasn’t long ago when Netflix users gathered their pitchforks and torches in order to protest the 60% increase in monthly subscription fees. On top of that, Starz announced that they would not be renewing their contract come early 2012 and would be taking a lot of the newer programing with it.
But everything was soon made better in an apology blog post by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings right? Wrong! Hastings fed subscribers a backhanded apology that led into the company’s next poor decision of splitting its streaming service with its DVD-by-mail service and calling the latter Qwikster.
A name that seemed like Hastings made it up as he was writing his blog post, the company was unprepared for the split to the point where they had even failed to acquire the Twitter handle. Instead, the Twitter page belonging to a pot smoking, foul-mouthed, soccer fan was receiving thousand of hits.
With one business decision after another, and seeming like a Business 101 project, an estimated 1 million subscribers had jumped ship. The company that revolutionized how we rent movies was losing it’s touch. Some think that since Netflix started it all, there is no way it can fail. Read the rest of this entry »

Recently, AngryWeb reported on the unfortunate case of Mike Meyer, a special needs Superman fan in Illinois who lost a large portion of his beloved merchandise and comics collection to a con man. Our readers were invited to be part of the worldwide effort to send gifts of new comics, cards and drawings to the disappointed Meyer.
A Daily Planet exclusive reveals that the perpetrator, Lex Luthor (or rather, Gerry Armbruster of Granite City, Ill.), has been apprehended for both this crime and for armed robbery of an elderly gentleman. The police were able to return Meyer’s stolen items.
Meyer has been collecting Superman comics and memorabilia for more than thirty-five years. Armbruster stole more than 1,800 items from the man’s beloved collection. AngryWeb readers and others around the world quickly rallied and sent Meyer all sorts of gifts. Among other things, officials in Cleveland have offered to arrange for Meyer to tour the house where Superman was born – that is, the house in which a young Jerry Siegel and Joel Shuster created him – and the chamber of commerce in Metropolis, Illinois is reported to be cooking up something special for the Superfan.
Thanks to all the donations from his fellow fans around the globe, Meyer’s collection has almost doubled in size. He has decided that he’s going to donate many of the duplicate items to charity, most probably to a children’s hospital.
“People were generous to me,” he says. “I can be generous in return.”
Looks like truth and justice have prevailed once again, folks. It just goes to show…each of us really can be a superhero.
A Redditor posted this photo of this Mario statue claiming that his father received it for working with the company for 20 years…where do I sign up?

Imagine, for a moment, that Superman was real.
Imagine that you’re a citizen of Anytown, U.S.A., and you’ve suffered a personal injustice at the hands of a modern-day supervillain. Imagine that Superman, buff and friendly in his red and blue ensemble, comes flying in to help you with your problem.
Now imagine that instead of Superman, it’s you who can be the hero. Guess what? You can.
The gentleman who is the victim in our story is one Mike Meyer, who lives near St. Louis, Missouri. Mike is a special-needs individual who supplements his disability income by working part-time at McDonald’s. He is also an avid fan of Superman who had a collection of comics and memorabilia worth a few thousand dollars, although to him, it was priceless.
I say ‘had’ because not long ago, a former coworker managed to swindle his way into Mike’s home and steal a large chunk of the collection. Naturally, the Superfan – who even has a dog named Krypto – was crushed.
The authorities are hot on the trail of the Lex Luthor of this tale, so let’s not waste any energy thinking about him or how badly karma’s going to bite him in the rear. Instead, let’s mobilize ourselves and unleash the power of fandom. We’re all geeks of some flavor, and Mike is one of our brethren.
If you have a Superman collection of your own and you’d be willing to contribute something to helping him rebuild his, that would be wonderful. But even if you don’t, you can still participate! Draw Mike a picture of Superman, or buy him a card at the store, or just write him a note of support. Something. Anything. Remind him that there are more heroes than villains in the world. Show him the love that he really needs right now.
To assist Mike, one of his relatives has volunteered to be the Daily Planet intern of the story, and receive all of the mail on his behalf. So send your cards, notes, comic books, and other gifts to:

Let’s show a Superfan some Supersupport. I know Clark Kent would want us to do it.
Anne Hathaway, who plays Selina Kyle and of course Catwoman in the upcoming film “The Dark Knight Rises”, is seen beating up a knife wielding thug in what appears to be that she trying to save a young kid. I cant wait to see more of Ann Hathaway as Catwoman.

John Mazzocchi, an employee of GameStop for 5 years, was let go after posting this picture online. According to the Urban Dictionary, Planking is:
To lay horizontally in a strange or unusual place. To plank you must lay horizontally straighten your body and point your fingers and toes down (towards your feet), then you must name your “plank” and post a picture of the creator (of the plank) performing the pose on Facebook.
Planking is a great pastime for people who get bored easily and have friends willing to take pictures of them looking like retards. Public planking is more adventurous and is harder to pull off especially on things like: cop cars, public toilets, and in the middle of six way highways.
Planking can also be dangerous if performed: in places of frequent use, the tops of tall buildings and places frequented by pedophiles and rapists.
I couldn’t have put it better myself. This is just another fad that has gone around on the internet and have cost 2 employees (Mazzocchi and his friend who took the photo) their job.
As a former manager of a GameStop, I can probably say that being let go is probably one of the better things that happened to them. there is nothing worse than becoming a GameStop lifer for both your social life and love life.
Well, I have joined the masses that has committed to cancelling their Netflix account after the 60% price hike. I think it’s important to explain why I did cancel because it goes beyond just an increase of price and a hit to my digital wallet. It’s the principal of the matter and the beginning of an unfriendly snowball.
Since Netflix started in 1999, the movie studios have been raising the licensing fees on Netflix in order to recoup lost revenue from lacking sales. Whether the loss in sales is from piracy, rentals or both, consumers are getting hit where it hurts at a pretty bad time economically.
I can justify spending $18 a month for Blu Rays to be sent to my home or the ability to stream movies to my PS3. But realistically, “The King’s Speach” has been sitting on my nightstand for 3 weeks and there isn’t enough good content streaming that isn’t already syndicated on every cable channel for me to pay separately for it. Not only that, this is the second price hike in under a year.
Netflix should be standing up for the consumers instead of passing the cost to us. If nobody stands up to the greed of the studios, movie tickets will continue to sky rocket and Netflix will be charging $50 a month for their service.
Block buster has joined the fight by keeping their rates low, giving access to movies on release date (unlike Netflix) and will mail video games under the same plan. On top of that, Walmart has entered the game with their acquisition of Vudu and Amazon has cut streaming deals with CBS and NBC this week. Hulu Plus is the same price as Netflix streaming but offers newer programming usually available within 24 hours. There are also talks that Apple or Google is looking in to purchasing Hulu which would be huge.
The bottom line is, Netflix is a great service but has treated their customers poorly and has added to a trend of taking advantage of consumers. Not only have their stocks fallen considerably since news broke out but thousands of hateful posts have been made on their Facebook account by angry customers. Fortunately, there are other players in the same game and I will personally be enjoying my free month of Blockbuster.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy, a new short mini series produced by Warner Brothers and debuting on the Machinima youtube channel. So far we are told that this series will have nine parts to it and part one (episode 1) is now out on Machinima on youtube. It is being directed by Kevin Tancharoen the same individual behind the “Mortal Kombat Rebirth” short fan film If you would like to find out more just check out FIRSTSHOWING.NET.
This series will be a real treat for die hard Mortal Kombat fans and aside from the fan base the series itself seems to be well funded and produced. After watching episode one I definitely have high hopes for this mini-series and I’m looking forward to episode two coming out next week. I do have a small concern however; 1) hopefully this remains a mini-series and does not turn into a full blown TV show and the reason being that it would simply dilute the story, short and sweet is the best way to go with Mortal Kombat, and 2) it seems that there will be a re-vamp of the original Mortal Kombat movie (can’t wait for that!) and there is very little information provided for it the only thing that is known for sure at the moment is that the remake will be much, much darker and with the help of all the new CG methods hopefully we’ll get a really gritty rated R version, otherwise whats the point right?
In the mean time we can keep our fingers crossed for this great mini-series to only get better!
