71hL6 VAshL. AA1500 530x530 Harry Potter Wizards Collection now available for pre order

Hey Harry Potter fans! Do you have $449 you’re looking to blow on a Blu Ray box set? If not, you’re not alone.

This week, Amazon started taking pre orders on the “Harry Potter” Wizard’s Collection. After a $50 price break, fans can expect to spend $449 on this set and fans are not happy about it. Similar to what we saw with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy being released on Blu Ray without the extended versions and the “Star Wars” Blu Rays being released as the special editions, this product has already racked up over 50 1 star ratings and I’m sure this is just the beginning of fans being vocal about an over priced box set which offers little incentive to buy.

The HP Wizard’s Collection includes the following movies and features:

  • Contains 31 discs, inclusive of all content ever previously released, in addition to over 5 hours of never before seen special features, in a limited and numbered edition.
  • 18 movie discs
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Theatrical Version and Extended Cut
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Theatrical Version and Extended Cut
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 2D and 3D Versions
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 2D and 3D Versions
  • 13 Special feature discs
  • Includes multiple specially-produced, collectible memorabilia items, including concept art, a Map of Hogwarts and much more!

AW Movie Review: John Carter

JohnCarter 530x302 AW Movie Review: John Carter

For a product that is literally 100 years old, you’d think that Disney would have had enough time on their hands to figure out a way to properly market their next potential blockbuster franchise.  But then again, how do you promote a movie that looks like a retread if not all out rip off of Avatar, Star Wars, and practically every other major sci fi series over the past few decades when the general audience doesn’t  realize that it’s actually the other way around.  That John Carter of Mars came first.  It seems that this was the idea that the House of Mouse eventually settled on with their recent “Before there was Star Wars” commercial campaign and it’s a shame that they didn’t roll with this strategy from the start.  Even though the geekdom knows of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Barsoom saga, I’m afraid that this movie may flop because the rest of the world won’t give the franchise a chance.  And it deserves a chance.  While by no means a great film, I think Disney and Andrew Stanton have created the start of what could be a very cool film franchise.

I give Stanton a ton of credit here.  While the movie has a good amount of flaws – the plot gets convoluted and the pacing is often rushed, when there’s no action on screen THERE’S NO ACTION ON SCREEN, and the dialogue sometimes drifts into Episode II territory – I think Andrew Stanton’s jump from animation to live action is an overall success.  Despite the aforementioned issues, there is nothing I would say is just plain bad.  On the flip side, Stanton did a whole lot right.  There were even some scenes such as the Carter vs. alien massacre/flashback which were downright stellar.  Stanton took a $250 million mega budget and all the pressures that go along with it and made a solid beginning film.  If the demand is there for future installments that can expand the mythology that at times weighed down this first effort, fans are in for a real treat.  The mythology is so rich that it will require multiple visits to Barsoom to fully appreciate it.  Read the rest of this entry »

“DoubleCrossed” – a short film

Posted by Eugene Wong On February - 25 - 2012

Greetings, fellow geeks! This is Eugene Wong, one of AW’s writers, and I’m here to present a short film I’ve been working on for almost half a year now. A little backstory – I started a film studio from scratch in the back of my apartment and pretty much produced my first short film as a one-man crew. The film is titled “DoubleCrossed” and can best be described as an action crime thriller. Lots of lessons were certainly learned from this experience, and believe me, this is only the beginning of many other projects I have in mind for the future. Attached below are also some posters my editor and I had made to spark a little buzz on the project.

Anyways, enjoy the film! Comments, likes, and dislikes are welcome icon smile DoubleCrossed a short film

Johnny Depp as a pretty-boy vampire in “Dark Shadows”

With “True Blood” and “Twilight” pumping out the pretty-boy vampires, lady killer Johnny Depp will be portraying yet another well groomed creature of the night in Tim Burtons film adaptation of “Dark Shadows”.

Dark Shadows centers on Barnabas, a Liverpool native who moved (with his family) to America in 1752. He grew up to become one of the most popular residents of Collinsport, Maine, and the master of Collinwood Manor. He had everything: good looks, charm and money. Too bad he lost it all when he screwed over Angelique (Eva Green), his ex-girlfriend, who happened to be a witch!

Burton’s “Dark Shadows” will hit theaters this May.
